Murray Mine
In 1883, Tom Flanagan discovered nickel-copper in Sudbury Ont, during the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway. A year later came the existence of the Northern Ontario town of Murray Mine, which lay about 6 km Northwest of Sudbury. Murray Mine was established by brothers Thomas and William Murray and became the first mine in Sudbury to operate with a subsurface depth of 1268 metres. The first production of nickel-copper in Murray Mine was in 1889 with its final production in 1971. Joseph Pluto was born in Murray Mine, hinting that there was some settlement camp near the mines in the mid-1890s.

JOSEPH PLUTO
Joseph Peter Pluto was born on March 19, 1894 in Murray Mine Ontario, a subdivision of Sudbury Ontario. He was 24 when he was drafted to serve for the Canadian Royal Expeditionary on June 8, 1916. He survived the war after serving in England and was discharged at the end of the First World War on July 3, 1919. He went on to live with his father Paul Pluto who moved to Edmonton Alberta.
